Aus Open Surfing: Enever beats Wright

Laura Enever has claimed her first victory since 2010, beating fellow Aussie Tyler Wright to take out the title of Australian Open Champion.

In a final that went right down to the last sets, Enever got over the top of the 2014 tour runner up by 0.83 points with a score of 14.77.

You wouldn’t say the two-time junior world champ had an easy path to the final either. She defeated six-time world champ Steph Gilmore in the fifth round, Georgia Fish in the quarter final and Tatiana Weston in the semi.

Enever: “It has shown me that I can surf well, that I can match it with the best. My confidence has come back.”

“And it’s so special to be able to do that here, in front of family and friends.”

The win puts Enever in good stead for the upcoming season as she looks to improve on her 10th place in last year’s tour.
